The FE-7806 Targeting Goggles are
eyeglass-like devices resembling sunglasses and consisting of a
metal frame and transparent aluminum lenses, black when viewed from
the exterior and transparent when viewed from the interior. They can
be worn in place of the FE-7803A1 Special Ops MIPPA helmet, without
sacrificing the tactical information offered.
The FE-7806 is also equipped with night vision systems and the
lenses provide variable-intensity shading to protect the wearer's
eyes from sudden, bright lights. Micro transmitters and receivers
are used to network the Goggles with other Ranger equipment,
including weapons, communicators, CEMS and sensors. When networked,
the Targeting Goggles can project targeting information, sensor
data, and visual communications information to other Rangers on the
network.
The ear and nose mounts of the FE-7806
contain an electro-chemical adhesive that bonds the shades to the
wearer when active, such that the shock of a fall or other sudden
impact will not knock the glasses from the wearer. Once the Ranger
puts the Goggles on, a tap with the fingers to the frame will cause
the adhesive to engage or disengage, allowing the user to put the
Goggles on and take them off without difficulty. As a safety
feature to protect the user, the adhesive will disengage when
subjected to a force of sufficient intensity to tear skin.
The lenses are shatter resistant, but should not be
considered protective devices.
