			The PS-27 is a long-range phaser
sniper rifle, used in situations when a phaser is more favorable
than a projectile weapon. The PS-27 has been modified so that the
pulse it fires is in the IR range of the visible spectrum, making it
invisible to most species without sensors, but also making the
weapon heavier. It has a maximum range of 5 km and an effective
range of 2.5 km, but has twice the power consumption and 2.5 times
the heat output of traditional phaser rifles, so it is more limited
in shot capacity. To help off set the heat and power consumption,
the PS-27 fires only in a single pulse mode. It also features a BF
scrambler, the RIS and folding bi-pod.
The standard scope is the S-72 Sniper
Optic, a larger, more powerful (4X-20X variable magnification)
version of the S-70 Combat Sight.
